Canadian Jennifer Heil, 18, became one of the youngest skiers to win a World Cup medal when she won silver in moguls at the 2001 Mondial Ericsson World Cup event. Nicknamed "Little Pepper," Heil was the 2000 national champion in single and double moguls. Check out Heil's CNNSI.com diary as she trains for the 2002 Olympic Games.

    Tignes, France

Arriving on the moon, November 23, here in Tignes, France. Yes, it honestly seems like the moon. The buildings are built tall and of concrete, no trees grace the landscape and without the winter snowfall the hills seem like craters.

But as you take the Funicular (a train running within the mountain) and step out on top of the mountainside, the jagged peaks of France encircle you. Concentrating far in the distance little specks of lift towers can be spotted. Together the ski resort of Tignes and Val d'Isere have two hundred lifts! Unfortunately not enough snow has fallen to take advantage of this. The competition this Saturday must be held on the glacier rather than the slopes of the 1992 Olympics near the base of the village.

The course is relatively flat and graced with two very big jumps compared to our pre-season training at Mike Weigele's Helicopter Resort and Zermatt, Switzerland. It is a fun course, one where the limits can be tested. It will be interesting to see just exactly what the limits will be this season. The countries from all around the world will meet this Saturday to display their hard work and progress of the past eight months. Already the teams are arriving in the village of Tignes and the air is beginning to feel like that of a competition.

I feel that the Canadians are going to be a force to be reckoned with. The driving might of our two amazing coaches, Dominick Gauthier and Bobby Aldighieri has been like no other years before. Great pre-season training has taken place and now it is time to get the party stared ...

Tignes, France and Steamboat, Colorado will mark the first two competitions before Christmas. After the Christmas break another set of competitions will take place continuing along the road to Salt Lake.
