TERMS

Ballast: Weight sliders add to the sled for reaching the maximum level. Ballast must be securely fastened to the sled and cannot be attached to the driver's body.

Helmet: Protective headgear all competitors must wear. Helmets need to have a chin guard and cover the head and ears.

Prone: Stomach-on-the-sled position that sliders remain in while traveling down the course.

Runners: Solid homogenous pieces of austenitic stainless steel attached to the sled. Competitors cannot heat or juice the runners.

Skeleton: Sled with two runners. Devices to assist steering or braking on the sled are prohibited.

Starting Block: Area the competitors stand on to begin a race. The starting line must be clearly visible.

Two inches: Distance between the slider's face and the ice.

Visor: Face and eye guard in front of the helmet. It must be break and splinter proof.
