Sidney Crosby

  • Sport: Olympic Ice Hockey
  • Nation: Canada
  • DOB: August 7, 1987
  • Career Highlights: One of the most highly touted draft picks in NHL history, Crosby has more than lived up to those lofty expectations since he was selected first overall by the Penguins in 2005. He ranked sixth in the league with 102 points in his rookie season, and led the NHL with a career-best 120 in 2006-07 to become the youngest player to win the scoring title. Besides winning the Art Ross Trophy that season, Crosby also won the Hart Trophy as league MVP and the Lester Pearson Award. Another outstanding campaign followed in 2007-08 as he totaled 72 points in 53 games, missing 29 games due to a sprained ankle. Crosby had 27 points in 20 playoff games in 2008 as Pittsburgh lost to Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals. After recording 33 goals and 103 points in the regular season to finish third in scoring, the now 22-year-old led the Penguins back to the finals against the Red Wings this past June and became the youngest captain to win the Stanley Cup.
