  • Career Highlights: Smith competed in luge before switching to skeleton and earned a pair of top-seven finishes in the 2005 and 2006 junior world championships. The same level of success has mostly eluded Smith at the senior level, but he earned his first World Cup medal in Lake Placid in December 2006. He also finished eighth in this past season’s Intercontinental Cup standings, including a fourth-place showing at his home track. He finished in the top 20 in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 World Cup standings but was 32nd this season while competing in two meets. His highest world championship showing was 12th place in January 2007 in St. Mortiz, Switzerland. Smith graduated from Pittsburgh (Kan.) State with an environmental science degree and is currently working on a bachelor’s in finance, possibly to become a wine maker.
