Graham Watanabe

  • Sport: Olympic Snowboarding
  • Nation: United States of America
  • DOB: March 19, 1982
  • Hometown: Sun Valley, ID
  • Career Highlights: Watanabe traveled to Turin four years ago as a wax tech for the U.S. team, but ended up taking part in the first-ever Olympic snowboardcross competition as an injury replacement, finishing 31st. He'll have a different mindset on his way to Vancouver after punching his ticket with a second-place finish at the World Cup event in Stoneham, Quebec, in January. The 27-year-old has blossomed into a force on the snowboardcross circuit, winning a World Cup event in the month of February in both 2008 (Gujo-Gifu, Japan) and 2009 (Sunday River, Maine), and reaching the podium twice this winter. He also took silver at the 2009 Winter X Games, and was the first American man ever to win a World Cup event in snowboardcross when he did it back in 2004 at Valle Nevado, Chile. Watanabe is known for his sense of humor, appearing in the recent spoof film "Cheap Ski Movie," but he'll be serious about getting to the podium in Vancouver despite stiff competition from teammates Seth Wescott, Nate Holland and Nick Baumgartner.
