  • Career Highlights: Whitmore earned a spot on the 2010 Olympic team by winning the 500 meter event at the recent 2009 U.S. Speedskating Championships in Salt Lake City with a combined time of 70.60 seconds. He won the world junior championship in February 2009 by setting a track record of 36.44 seconds in his first race at that event in Poland. Whitmore first took part in the sport at age 9. He began his career in the distance races, particulary the 10,000 meters, but then turned his focus to the sprints where he went on to finish first in the 500 and fourth in the 1,000 at the junior worlds. Whitmore studied psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
