  • Career Highlights: A first-round draft pick by New Jersey in 1998, Gomez became the first Latino NHL player when he made his debut for the Devils on Oct. 2, 1999. He had 19 goals and 70 points that year and won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie while also helping New Jersey win the franchise’s second Stanley Cup. Gomez averaged 64 points in seven seasons with the Devils and won his second Stanley Cup in 2002-03. He had the best season of his career in 2005-06, returning from the lockout to tally 33 goals and 84 points in 82 games. After putting up 60 points in 2006-07, the playmaking center signed a seven-year, $51.5 million contract with the New York Rangers on July 1, 2007. Gomez, however, spent only two seasons with the Rangers before he was traded to Montreal on June 30, 2009.
