Chara won the Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenseman in 2008-09, becoming only the second player in the past eight
seasons other than Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom to win the award. After four seasons with the New York Islanders, Chara increased
his point total in each of his four years with Ottawa before signing a five-year contract with Boston in July 2006. He set
a career high with 51 points in 2007-08 then followed that with 50 points the next season, including a personal-best 19 goals.
A four-time All-Star, Chara possesses one of the league’s hardest shots in addition to his imposing physical presence. He
represented Slovakia in the 2006 Olympics, tallying one goal and one assist in six games.
