first men’s gold medal in luge since 1968 when Manfred Schmid won in singles. Andreas and Wolfgang, who placed eighth in the
2002 Games, won in Turin even though Wolfgang competed with metal pins in his leg after fracturing his left ankle and fibula
prior to the Olympics. The Lingers, winners of the 2003 world championship, finished third in the World Cup doubles standings
in 2004-05 and 2007-08. At the '09 European Luge Championships, the pair won silver in men’s doubles and the mixed team event.
They took bronze in men’s doubles and mixed team in the 2004 European Luge Championships.
