- Career Highlights: One of the most versatile Olympians in Canadian history, Hughes is a three-time Winter Olympic medalist and two-time Summer
Olympic medalist. After winning a bronze medal in the 5,000 meters at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, Hughes took home gold
in the same event at Turin in 2006. At the same Games, she won silver as part of the Canadian team pursuit squad. Hughes won
six World Championship medals from 2003-2009 _ including one gold. She set a Canadian record in the 10,000 meters with a time
of 14:19.73. Hughes won a pair of cycling bronze medals at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta and has competed in the Tour de
France four times. Her bronze at the 2002 Games made her the fourth athlete, and second woman, to win medals at both the Winter
and Summer Olympics. Hughes will carry her country's flag during the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver Games.
