Career Highlights: Makhov is a three-time world champion who finished second at the 2011 world championships after winning the previous two years. He won the European championship in 2010 and also won Russian national titles in 2007 and 2010. Makhov was also a two-time junior world champion, winning in 2005 and 2006 before taking home his first senior title in 2007. He was forced to miss the 2008 Olympics because of health issues, so this will be his first appearance at the games.
