Andrei Moiseev

Andrei MoiseevSport: Pentathlon

Nation: Russian Federation

DOB: June 3, 1979

Career Highlights: Moiseev is looking to make history in London, but may have some competition from a compatriot. The 2011 world champion is seeking to become the first modern pentathlete to win gold medals in three consecutive Olympics. The Russian also has a chance to join Andras Balczo of Hungary as the only man to win three gold medals in the sport. Balczo earned those from 1960-72, but claimed two of them in the now-defunct team competition. Sweden’s Lars Hall (1952-56) is the only other man to win two individual golds. Moiseev could face a challenge in his quest for gold No. 3 from Aleksander Lesun, who ran past him in the final 500 meters to claim this year's world championship. While Lesun will be making his first Olympic appearance, Moiseev might look to his 14 years of international experience to help him prevail. In addition to his world title, he won European championships in 2008 and '11, and finished second in 2006. He also claimed a silver in the World Cup finals in 2001 and is a two-time third-place finisher at the world championships (2005 and 2010). Moiseev is seeking to earn Russia’s fourth consecutive gold medal in the sport.
