Career Highlights: Heading into his third Olympics, Akkaev will be stepping up in weight class. Competing at 94 kilograms, Akkaev won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Games and took bronze in 2008 in Beijing. Last year while competing at 105 kilograms, Akkaev took golds in the World Weightlifting Championships and European Weightlifting Championships. At the worlds, Akkaev took the top spot on the podium after defeating countryman Dmitry Klokov by two kilograms.
