Victoria Komova
Sport: Gymnastics
Nation: Russian Federation
DOB: January 30, 1995
Career Highlights: A star at the junior level, Komova made her highly anticipated senior world championship debut in 2011 and did not disappoint.
She battled American star Jordyn Wieber for the all-around title, leading going into the final rotation before falling just
short by 0.033 to Wieber and settling for the silver medal. She bounced back to take gold in the uneven bars and also earned
a silver in the team competition. Komova won gold on the uneven bars and a team silver at the European championships this
year. She had a minor follow-up surgery on her right ankle in March to improve blood flow after struggling with an injury
to the joint for much of 2011, but recovered from the latest surgery quickly. Komova was the 2010 Youth Olympic all-around
champion and won the European and Russian junior championships that year, pegging her as a future star well before her move
to the senior level. She lists two-time Olympic uneven bars champion Svetlana Khorkina and reigning all-around Olympic champion
Nastia Liukin of the United States - to whom Komova has been compared stylistically - as her biggest influences. She enters
London among the favorites to win all-around gold.
