Career Highlights: Ukhov doesn't have any previous Olympic experience, but he briefly became an Internet sensation during a meet in Switzerland
in 2008 - well before he'd accomplished much as a high jumper. Then 22, Ukhov wobbled toward the bar and collapsed onto the
mat, unable to jump because he was drunk on what was later discovered to be a combination of Red Bull and vodka. While that
could have been the moment Ukhov was always known for, much of what he's done over the past four years has made it clear he's
intent on erasing that image. Ukhov won gold at the 2009 European Indoors and 2010 World Indoors, took silver later that year
in the European Championships and successfully defended his European Indoors title in 2011. A basketball player growing up
before switching to athletics, Ukhov has one peculiarity that's evident upon close inspection prior to his jumps. While most
high jumpers wear special spiked shoes to help them plant upon take-off, Ukhov says he can only jump well without spikes.
That makes it harder for him to get a solid grip in rainy conditions, but as long as it's dry in London, there's a good chance
Ukhov could wind up on the medal stand.
