Career Highlights: Sakamoto won her second straight world championship at 48 kg in 2011, giving her eight world titles for her career. She won the first six at 51 kg - a weight not recognized for competition at the Olympics. She’s also won gold at the Asian championships in 2000 and 2005 and took bronze at the Asian Games in 2010. Sakamoto failed to qualify for the Olympics in 2004 and 2008, choosing to try and qualify at 55 kg, where she lost out to Saori Yoshida, instead of at 48 kg, where her sister Makiko wrestled.
