DOB: July 1, 1983
Career Highlights: Success in the Ueno family is nothing new at the international level, though Yoshie is carrying the Olympic mantle in London
for the family after sister Masae won gold medals in the 2004 and 2008 Games at the 70-kilogram level. Yoshie is a weight
class below at 63kg and considered one of the favorites to win gold. A two-time world champion in 2009 and 2010, the younger
Ueno lost in the finals last year to France's Gevrise Emane but contributed to Japan's 17-medal haul at the event. Emane may
be the only fighter in her weight class that can stop Ueno from winning a gold medal - Yoshie is 0-3 against Emane since the
latter dropped down from the 70kg weight class. Ueno also won the gold at the 2010 Asian Games and is the top-ranked fighter
in the world in her weight class. In 2012, she won her weight class at the Masters in Kazakhstan and the Asian Championships.
Ueno has won seven IJF titles in the cycle leading up to the Olympics and has reached the semifinals in 48 consecutive tournaments
at every level.
