Viktor Ruban
Sport: Archery
Nation: Ukraine
DOB: May 24, 1981
Career Highlights: Since archery returned to the Olympic program in 1972, no man or woman has won individual gold medals in consecutive Summer
Games. Ruban will try to become the first to accomplish that feat in London and join American Darrell Pace as the only archer
to win two individual golds over the past 40 years. Ruban previously made history by becoming the first archer from his country
to win a gold medal in 2008. In the finals in Beijing, he edged former world champion Park Kyung-Mo of South Korea by one
point with a bull’s-eye on his final arrow. During the Athens Games, Ruban was a member of the bronze medal-winning team but
couldn't get past the round of 16 in the individual competition. Besides his Olympic success, Ruban finished third at the
2009 world championships and earned a silver medal at the World Cup finals in 2008. He also won a World University Games title
in 2009.
