Career Highlights: Salimikordasiabi will enter London trying to extend his gold medal-winning streak in major events to six. Starting with the 2009 Asian Championships, Salimikordasiabi has taken gold in five straight events and hasn’t had an aggregate lift of fewer than 421 kilograms in any of them. His best effort came last November at the World Weightlifting Championships. Salimikordasiabi set a world record with 214 kilograms in the snatch and lifted 250 kilograms in the clean and jerk for an aggregate of 464. He was reportedly given a hero’s welcome by thousands upon returning to his hometown in northern Iran. In 2010, Salimikordasiabi set an Asian Games record with 205 kilograms in the snatch.
