at the Olympics. Karami didn't make the 2008 Games but punched his ticket to London with a second-place finish at the World
Olympic qualification tournament in July 2011. Karami, who started to garner national attention after winning his first world
championship at 20 years old in 2003, won his second such title eight years later. Karami is also a two-time bronze medalist
at worlds and a two-time Asian Games champion, winning the event in 2006 and 2010. He has won 57 of 66 registered fights in
his career and was ranked No. 2 in the world in the +80 kg weight class as of June.
