Eskild Ebbesen
Sport: Rowing
Nation: Denmark
DOB: May 27, 1972
Hometown: Lyngby
Career Highlights: Ebbesen walked away from rowing twice, but the 40-year-old returns for his fifth - and likely final - appearance at the Games.
He has been one of the world's most decorated rowers since joining the Danish national team in 1990, winning six gold medals
at the world championships and three Olympic golds in lightweight coxless fours in 1996, 2004 and '08. Ebbesen also has an
Olympic bronze from 2000, when the Danes were forced to carry on with an injury replacement. After carrying Denmark's flag
during the opening ceremony in Athens and then taking gold in '04, he chose to retire, only to return three years later in
preparation for the 2008 Games. He again said goodbye to the sport following Beijing, but came back last year with an eye
on Olympic medal No. 5. With Ebbesen in tow, the Danes should again be favorites in London.
