Career Highlights: Growing up with the title of “Little Yao Ming”, Yi was immediately touted as a basketball star. He first stepped on the international scene in the 2003 world championship for juniors, averaging 18.9 points along with 11.5 rebounds. The next year, he found himself on the Chinese national team competing in the Olympics. Yi only played around 12 minutes per game in the 2004 Summer Games, but he started to show improvement at high-level competition in the 2006 world championships. Yi took on a larger role in the 2008 Olympics, averaging 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in 30.0 minutes per contest as China reached the quarterfinals. His performance in the final of the Asian qualifying tournament in September keyed China wrapping up a berth in London. He scored 25 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and hit the deciding free throw with 28 seconds left in a 70-69 win over Jordan. Yi was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 8.6 points on 42.1 percent shooting in his rookie season. He has yet to find the success he was looking for in the NBA, having already played for four teams in five years. Yi is coming off his worst season, playing limited minutes in 30 games with the Dallas Mavericks and spending part of the year in the Developmental League. He had his best season in 2009-10 for the New Jersey Nets, averaging 12.0 points and 7.2 rebounds. Though Yi's career has since gone downhill, his popularity and interest from fans back in China has never wavered.
