Lotta Schelin

Lotta SchelinSport: Soccer

Nation: Sweden

DOB: February 27, 1984

Hometown: Trangsund

Career Highlights: A superb player and consistent source of production for Sweden, Schelin enters her third Olympics looking for her first medal. She's as versatile as she is talented, capable of playing as a winger or up top. Her quickness and skill on the ball give her the tools needed to set up scoring chances for herself and her teammates. Those skills were on display at last summer's World Cup, as Schelin joined the United States' Abby Wambach and Marta of Brazil as forwards on the tournament All-Star team. Schelin finished the World Cup with two goals, leading Sweden to a third-place finish - its best performance since the inaugural tournament in 1991. She had three of Sweden's four goals at the Beijing Olympics, including doing all the team's scoring in a 2-1 win over Canada that secured qualification to the quarterfinals, where it fell to Germany. Schelin has been awarded the Diamantbollen as Sweden’s best female soccer player twice, most recently last year. Her club career is also thriving, as she’s scored 37 goals in 43 games with Lyon, leading it to three consecutive French league titles and a Champions League crown in 2010-11.
