Peter Lopez
Sport: Taekwondo
Nation: Peru
DOB: September 23, 1981
Career Highlights: After failing to live up to expectations at the Beijing Games with a disappointing fifth-place finish, Lopez heads to London
looking for redemption and with his sights set on gold. Ranked No. 6 in the world in the 68 kg weight class coming into the
summer, Lopez has won 33 of 46 registered fights over the course of his career - most notably taking home the gold medal from
the 2010 Pan American championships. Other career highlights include winning silver at the 2001 world championships and bronze
at the 2003 worlds. Widely considered to be Peru's best shot at winning a medal in London, Lopez has a chance to become just
the second Peruvian to ever stand atop the podium, and the first in 64 years (Edwin Vasquez, shooting, 1948).
