Edinson Cavani
Sport: Soccer
Nation: Uruguay
DOB: February 14, 1987
Career Highlights: One of the most lethal and fearless forwards in the world, Cavani has a staggering goal-scoring rate at the club level and
is trying to carry that success to Uruguay. He's totaled 49 goals over the last two seasons with Napoli in Italy's Serie A,
helping the club qualify for the Champions League in 2011-12. In that tournament, he found the net five more times in eight
games before Napoli was eliminated by eventual champion Chelsea during the Round of 16. Cavani added five more goals in five
games during the Coppa Italia, scoring on a penalty in a 2-0 win over Juventus in the final. Still, he hasn't been as consistent
on the international level, scoring 11 goals in 40 games for Uruguay's senior national team. That's likely to change since
he's considered one of the most gifted target forwards in the world, possessing a skill set that should be on display in London.
His strength, aerial ability and willingness to challenge defenders make him dangerous on crosses and set pieces. He regularly
toils in the defensive end of the field in order to get the ball and set up a counter-attack. Cavani may end up being the
leading scorer at the Olympics, while Uruguay makes its first appearance since winning gold in 1924 and '28.
