Career Highlights: Triathlete Alistair Brownlee will be one of the favourites for gold at London 2012 alongside his brother Jonathan. A two-team triathlon world champion and back-to-back European champion in 2010 and 2011, Brownlee has been the dominant force in the sport since the Beijing Olympics. A 12th-place finish at the 2008 Games as a teenager proved the springboard for Brownlee’s success, and in 2009 he won his first World Championship crown - winning all five of the world series races in which he ran and becoming the first ever athlete to win the Junior, Under-23 and Senior ITU World Championships. A broken leg during the off-season ensured that Brownlee was unable to repeat his feat in 2010, but he returned to major championship action with a European gold in Athlone later that year. After successfully defending his European title in 2011, he regained the world elite title in 2011 to make it five world gold medals in all age groups in a blossoming career. Tipped to medal in London, Brownlee will face strong challengers from his younger brother Jonathan, Spain’s Javier Gomez and Russia’s Alexander Brukhankov.
