Martin Stamper
Sport: Taekwondo
Nation: Great Britain
DOB: August 21, 1986
Hometown: Manchester
Career Highlights: British taekwondo athlete Martin Stamper is an outside chance for a medal at the London Olympic Games. A European silver
at the 2008 European Championships in Rome was Stamper’s first taste of major international success, and after a year without
further honours he added a bronze at the French Open in 2010. An eight-time British champion, Stamper had limited international
success until 2011, when he won his first major gold medals at the US and German Opens. Entering at featherweight in the 2011
World Championships in Korea, Stamper exceeded expectations to pick up a bronze and signal his status as one of the medal
contenders for London 2012. Reigning world champion Servet Tazegul and former world champ Mohammed Bagheri are favourites
to reach the final in London, but Stamper will be confident of his chances of at least claiming a medal at his home Olympics.
