Sarah Stevenson
Sport: Taekwondo
Nation: Great Britain
DOB: March 30, 1983
Hometown: Manchester
Career Highlights: British taekwondo athlete Sarah Stevenson will be competing at her fourth Olympic Games in London 2012. Gold at the 1998 European
Championships in Eindhoven at middleweight hinted at a bright future for Stevenson, and she finished agonisingly outside of
the medals at her first Olympic games in Sydney - ending fourth. A World Championship gold in 2001 and silver in 2005 cemented
her place amongst the world’s elite, while European middleweight golds in 2005 and 2006 saw her go into the Beijing Olympics
in fine form. After reinstatement at the quarter-final stage following a judging error, Stevenson finished third, becoming
the first ever athlete from Great Britain to win an Olympic taekwondo medal. Having since moved to welterweight, Stevenson
won European gold at the 2010 championships in St Petersburg and World gold in the 2011 championships in Gyeongju and will
go into the London Games as one of the favourites for that weight division in what is likely to be her Olympic swansong.
