Peter Wilson
Sport: Shooting
Nation: Great Britain
DOB: September 15, 1986
Hometown: Sherborne
Career Highlights: The first shooter to qualify for a place on the Great Britain team for London 2012, Peter Wilson is one of the favourites
for double-trap gold. A promising youngster, Wilson won English, UK and European Championship golds in 2006 before turning
senior the following year. Silver medals in the 2010 European Championship and the 2011 World Cup event in Chile saw him rise
to the top of the world rankings at the end of that year. The son of a farmer, Wilson has spoken of his frustration at the
long-distance travelling involved in the sport and the inevitable ‘eight-hour’ delays when trying to take his gun through
airports. Trained by the gold medallist from Athens Sheikh Maktoum, Wilson is amongst the favourites for the event at London
2012. Russia’s Vitaly Fokeev is the world record holder for double-trap and will provide the strongest competition at the
Games.
