Luol DengSport: Basketball

Nation: Great Britain

DOB: April 16, 1985

Hometown: London

Career Highlights: The Chicago Bulls All-Star is easily the most well-known player for a British men's team making its first Olympic appearance since 1948. He's remained committed to playing for the host country despite a wrist injury that has bothered him for much of the past year. Deng was born in Sudan but raised in London and became a British citizen in 2006. He began playing with the national team in 2007, and he set a British scoring record with 38 points against Bosnia & Herzegovina. He's played for the Bulls in each of his eight professional seasons, and he was an All-Star selection for the first time in 2012. Known as a solid all-around player who is very good defensively, Deng has career averages of 16.0 points and 6.4 rebounds. He can score in a variety of ways, including from 3-point range, and uses his size well to defend numerous positions. While he may not have much experience internationally, Deng is used to playing under the spotlight with numerous playoff games under his belt as well as a trip to the Final Four. That run came in his only season at Duke in 2003-04, averaging 15.1 points and 6.9 rebounds. He headed to the NBA after his freshman year, getting drafted seventh overall by the Phoenix Suns but being dealt that night to Chicago. Deng has been mentored by former NBA player Manute Bol since he was very young.
