Career Highlights: Slalom Canoeist David Florence will be looking to go one better than his silver medal in Beijing when he competes at the Lee
Valley venue at the London 2012 Olympics. Florence signalled his arrival on the big stage in 2005 when he finished just outside
of the medals at the European Championships and picked up a bronze at the World Cup in Seu the same year. He picked up a bronze
in the C-1 team event at the 2006 World Championships and bagged his first gold medal with a World Cup win in Augsburg. Going
into the 2008 Olympics he was an outside hope for a medal, but was pipped to gold by the final runner Michal Martikan. Florence
added World Championship medals in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and picked up his first major championship gold with a win in the
C-2 team event at the 2012 European Championships. Florence will be hopeful of challenging for a medal in London, but the
Slovakian Martikan who beat him to the gold in Beijing will still be amongst the favourites.
