Frances Houghton
Sport: Rowing
Nation: Great Britain
DOB: September 19, 1990
Hometown: Oxford
Career Highlights: British rower Frances Houghton is the veteran of Team GB’s female rowing team at London 2012. After starting her rowing career
in 1995, she won World Junior bronze in the Double Sculls in 1998 and picked up gold in the same event at the World Under-23
Championships a year later. Selected for the Quadruple Sculls at the Athens Olympics in 2004, she finished short of gold,
taking home a silver medal from her first Olympic Games. An established memory of the Quad from 2004 onwards, she was in
the boat that won consecutive World Championship golds in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Going into Beijing as favourites, the British
boat led from the front, only to be overhauled in the final 200m by China and forced to settle for silver yet again. Another
World Championship triumph in 2010 suggests that Britain will once again be a force in the event, but China, Ukraine and
Germany will all be strong challengers.
