Barbara Engleder
Sport: Shooting
Nation: Germany
DOB: September 16, 1982
Hometown: Triftern
Career Highlights: Engleder didn't finish higher than seventh in her previous two Olympics, but that could change in London. The German is among
the favorites in the women’s 50-meter rifle, three positions after winning a world title in 2010, a gold medal at the 2011
World Cup finals and another at a World Cup event at the Royal Artillery Barracks - the venue for the Olympics. During her
most recent appearance at the games, the former Barbara Lechner came in ninth in the three positions and 17th in the 10-meter
air rifle. She also finished seventh in Athens in the three positions. The World Cup win in London was her first in that event
since 2005, when she matched a world record for highest qualifying score at 592 and set another for highest total at 692.1.
The latter mark has since been broken by German teammate Sonja Pfeilschifter. Engleder, though, has one mark that won't be
topped. She scored a perfect 400 in the 10-meter air rifle while winning the 2005 European championship.
