Dai Greene
Sport: Track and Field
Nation: Great Britain
DOB: April 11, 1986
Hometown: Bath
Career Highlights: Hurdler Dai Greene is an Olympic gold away from holding the full set of major championship gold medals. A football player
at youth level, Greene was offered a contract by Swansea City at the age of 16 but turned his back on the opportunity in favour
of a career in track and field. After success on the junior circuit, he missed out on qualification for the Beijing Olympics
due to a foot injury, but recorded a first senior win in 2009 and went on to reach the final of the 400m hurdles and pick
up a 4x400m relay silver medal at the World Championships in Berlin later that year. 2010 proved the year that Greene announced
himself as a major contender in the sport, picking up a European Championship gold in Barcelona before adding a second major
gold of the season at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. One of the medal outsiders going into the 2011 World Championships
in Daegu, Greene overtook the field in the final straight to claim world gold and ensure he will be one of Britain’s hopes
for a track and field medal in London. American trio Angelo Taylor, Kerron Clement and Bershawn Jackson earned the USA a clean
sweep in Beijing and are likely to be the main threats to Greene four years on in the hurdles, while a medal in the relay
is also a possibility.
