David Davies
Sport: Swimming
Nation: Great Britain
DOB: March 3, 1985
Hometown: Cardiff
Career Highlights: Experienced long-distance swimmer David Davies will be competing in his third Olympics at the London 2012 games. A bronze
medal in the 1500m freestyle at the Athens Olympics in 2004 was Davies’ first taste of Olympic success, and he followed it
up with Commonwealth Games medals in 2006 - gold in the 1500m and bronze in the 400m freestyles. At his second Olympics in
Beijing, Davies finished sixth in the 1500m before taking part in the open water 10k - a new event. Pipped to gold in a three-way
sprint finish by Maarten van der Weijden, Davies picked up silver. A slump in form and withdrawal from the 2011 World Championships
prompted rumours of retirement, but Davies bounced back to qualify for the 1500m freestyle in London. The 27-year-old has
confirmed that his home Olympics will be his final Games, but he will face strong competition for a podium finish and Yang
Sun is the stand-out favourite for 1500m gold.
