Career Highlights: Freestyle and butterfly swimmer Fran Halsall is amongst the Great Britain medal hopefuls at the London 2012 aquatic centre.
Silver in the 4x100m medley and 4x100m freestyle at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne announced the 22-year-old ’s
arrival onto the international swimming stage as a teenager, and a collection of individual and team medals at the 2008 World
Championships in Manchester confirmed her part of the team for the Beijing Olympics. Eighth in the final of the 100m freestyle,
Halsall was also part of the Great Britain team that set a new national record for the 4x100m at the 2008 Games, but she went
away from her first Olympics without a medal. 2010 proved a highly successful year for Halsall as she picked up five medals
at the European Long Course Championships - including a first individual gold at a major meet (in the 100m freestyle). Five
more medals followed at the Commonwealth Games of that year, where - despite illness, she added a second major career gold
in the 50m butterfly. After staying out of the limelight in 2011 as she prepared for the 2012 season, Halsall will go into
the London games with hopes of medalling in multiple events.
