Lena Schoneborn
Sport: Pentathlon
Nation: Germany
DOB: April 11, 1986
Career Highlights: At the Beijing Games, Schoneborn won Germany's first gold in modern pentathlon since 1936 and the first medal of any kind
in the sport for a woman from her country. Next, she'll seek more history, as no one has repeated as a medalist in modern
pentathlon since women began competing in 2000. Since her Olympic win, Schoneborn has won a European championship and a pair
of bronze medals in the world championships, including one in London in 2009. She finished fifth in the past two worlds, but
was a member of the gold medal-winning, three-person relay team at the event earlier this year. Schoneborn also won silver
at the 2007 world championships and took a junior world title in 2005. She started competing in modern pentathlon after spending
10 years as a swimmer. She also participated in gymnastics, tennis, and track and field as a youngster.
