Gregory Bauge

Gregory BaugeSport: Cycling

Nation: France

DOB: January 31, 1985

Hometown: Maisons-Laffitte

Career Highlights: Perhaps the world’s best track cycling sprinter, Bauge might also be one of the sport’s most controversial figures. A seven-time world champion and a member of France’s 2008 Olympic silver medal-winning team sprint squad, Bauge has dominated the world’s sprint racing scene since 2006. In the midst of his dominance, however, Bauge was stripped of his 2011 world titles in the individual and team sprint races when he received a retroactive 12-month suspension for missing doping tests. Though that kind of harsh punishment might have shot the confidence of most athletes, Bauge regrouped to win the 2012 sprint world championship. He hopes that victory will be the beginning of big things to come this season, culminating with a strong showing in London. Bauge, Kevin Sireau and Michael D’Almeida should also contend for gold in the team sprint after finishing second behind the Australians at the 2012 Worlds. Bauge finished seventh in the keirin at the 2008 Summer Games.
