Career Highlights: Knapkova will be looking for her first Olympic medal after finishing fourth in the singles sculls at the 2004 Games and fifth
in Beijing. She was dealing with an illness in 2008 and failed to medal in the double sculls, finishing sixth with Gabriela
Varekova. Knapkova, who goes my “Mirka,” won gold in singles sculls at the 2011 European championships and the 2011 world
championships. It was her first world championship victory after placing fourth in 2007 and ‘12, third in 2009 and second
in 2005 and ’06.
