Jose Antonio Hermida
Sport: Cycling
Nation: Spain
DOB: August 24, 1978
Hometown: Puigcerda
Career Highlights: Poised for his fourth straight - and quite likely, last - Olympics, Hermida hopes to shake off a disappointing 2011 season
by performing well down the stretch leading into London. Hermida made his Olympic debut at the 2000 Sydney Games, finishing
fourth in the mountain bike cross-country event. Four years later in Athens, he made his way to the podium by taking silver.
However, Hermida regressed in Beijing, struggling to make a serious push and finishing 10th. Despite the disappointing effort,
he bounced back to win the 2010 world championship at the ripe age of 32. One year later, he salvaged his season with a win
in Spain’s national championship race, but it was his lone victory of the year. Though he’s enjoyed some solid performances
in the first half of 2012, Hermida finished 20th at the world championships in January. He began riding bikes as a teenager
after he found no good surfaces to skateboard on in Spain.
