Markus RoganSport: Swimming

Nation: Austria

DOB: May 4, 1982

Career Highlights: Rogan is no stranger to the Olympics, having already competed in three of them, but medaling isn't second nature. He made his Olympic debut at the age of 18 in 2000, and finished 33rd in the 100 meter backstroke and 27th in 200 back. Four years later he earned silver in both events, but in Beijing four years ago, he placed ninth in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 back. He was also part of Austria's ninth-place 4x200 meter freestyle relay team. Prior to the 2008 Games, Rogan said he was going to retire from competitive swimming following the Olympics, but that lasted only a year. He competed at the 2009 world championships, but didn't qualify for the finals in either the 100 or 200 back. He had a much stronger showing at the 2010 European Championships, taking the silver in the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 1:58.03. Rogan was born in Austria, but grew up in Virginia and attended Stanford from 2000-04.
