Nick D'Arcy
Sport: Swimming
Nation: Australia
DOB: July 23, 1987
Hometown: Brisbane
Career Highlights: D'Arcy holds the Australian record for the 200 butterfly, but he is more famous for an incident that occurred outside the
pool. In March 2008, D'Arcy set the national record for the 200 in the semifinals of the Australian Swimming Championships,
immediately breaking the short-lived mark to win the final and earn a spot on the 2008 team that went to Beijing. That same
night, however, D'Arcy was charged with assault after a brawl with former swimmer Simon Cowley in a Sydney bar. D'Arcy was
dropped from the squad - as well as from the team that went to the 2009 world championships - after being convicted, and had
to pay $370,000 in damages and costs. He was reinstated following the 2009 worlds and earned a silver medal in the 200 at
the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, finishing behind only Michael Phelps. D'Arcy later beat Phelps in the 200 final at the
2011 Santa Clara International Grand Prix. D'Arcy qualified for London in March with a time of 1 minute, 54.71 seconds, bettering
the mark of 1:55.43 that Phelps had posted as the fastest of 2012 up to that point.
