Career Highlights: Poewe has swum internationally for two countries, representing South Africa at the 2000 Olympics and Germany in the past two
Games. At Sydney a dozen years ago, while only 17 years old, she finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the
200 breast. Poewe won her only Olympic medal - taking bronze - as a member of the 400 medley relay team in 2004 and finished
fifth in the 100 breast at those Games. A three-time All-American at the University of Georgia, Poewe was ranked third in
the 100 breast heading into the 2008 Olympics, but had to withdraw due to illness. She has two bronze medals from world championships
and five gold, five silver and two bronze from the short course European championships.
