Career Highlights: Baptiste made her Olympic debut in 2004 at the age of 17, but it was a memorable appearance for the wrong reason. She ran the first leg for Trinidad and Tobago in the 4x100 meter relay, failing to complete the baton exchange to her teammate. Baptiste enrolled at LSU one year later, and would ultimately lead the Lady Tigers to a national championship in 2008. She became the first LSU woman to sweep the 60- and 100-meter titles at the NCAA championships in the same season that year. At the Beijing Games, though, Baptiste failed to build on that momentum. In the 100, she was eliminated after finishing sixth in her quarterfinal heat, and the Trinidad and Tobago 4x100 team failed to earn a spot in the championship race due to another poor baton exchange. The bronze medal winner in the 100 at the 2011 world championships, Baptiste says her greatest accomplishment was winning gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters at the CARIFTA Games in her native country in 2005. Her interests outside of track and field include playing video games and listening to music, and she often listens to gospel music before her races.
