Sean Furey
Sport: Track and Field
Nation: United States of America
DOB: August 31, 1982
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Career Highlights: Furey is surely among the most academically accomplished U.S. Olympians, having graduated from Dartmouth with an engineering
degree and a 3.80 GPA - setting a school record in the javelin along the way. It’s the latter talent that earned him a ticket
to London. He threw the Olympic “A” standard in June, tossing the javelin a personal-best 271 feet, 5 inches, for the best
showing by an American this year. That put him on the U.S. team even though he finished a disappointing fourth at the Olympic
trials. Furey was the 2010 national outdoor champion and the 2011 runner-up, and he advanced out of the preliminary round
at the 2009 world championships before finishing 12th. Getting to the finals again figures to be a primary goal in London.
