Gia Lewis-Smallwood
Sport: Track and Field
Nation: United States of America
DOB: April 1, 1979
Hometown: Champaign, IL
Career Highlights: Lewis-Smallwood will look to capitalize on her long-awaited trip to the Olympics after 12 years of competing on the national
level. She made her first international team in 2011, and used a strong showing at the Wailuku Challenge to qualify for the
Olympic Team in discus. After a sixth-place finish at the U.S. Trials, it was her big throws from her previous competition
that surpassed the Olympic "A"standard necessary for a spot in London. Lewis-Smallwood finally saw success in competition
in 2010 with a second-place finish at the USA Outdoor Championships, and followed it up by finishing third the next year.
When she is not competing or training, she works part-time at the YWCA and with the Parkland Community College volleyball
team.
