Career Highlights: At 31 years old, exactly 10 years after his first top-10 finish at the U.S. outdoor championships, Young is finally going to the Olympics for the first time. According to the Texan, discus throwers have something in common with fine wine. "Discus throwing is something you get better at with age," Young said. "It takes a lot of long-term dedication to get where you want to go." Young's dedication was tested last year - "I almost quit this sport a year ago and lost my job," he said - but he ended up taking second place at the U.S. outdoor meet and reaching the final at the world championships, finishing 10th overall as the top American. The former Texas Tech thrower followed that up with a third-place finish at the U.S. Olympic trials, posting a toss of 203 feet, 11 inches (62.15 meters), and he earned a trip to London because he had thrown the Olympic "A" standard of 65.0 meters at the Texas Tech Open earlier in the year. He was a two-time All-American and the 2004 NCAA runner-up in the discus while competing for the Red Raiders.
