Ky Hurst
Sport: Swimming
Nation: Australia
DOB: March 11, 1981
Hometown: Nambour
Career Highlights: Hurst is perhaps the most successful ironman in the history of Surf Livesaving in his native Australia, being the only man
to have won seven titles. Nicknamed "Killer" due to his desire to win, Hurst has won 28 Surf Life Australian Championship
titles - the second-most ever - and is a member of the Surf Livesaving's Hall of Fame. All of that success as an ironman wasn't
enough, however, and in 2005 he set his sights on becoming an Olympian in the inaugural 10k open-water swim. That dream came
true in 2008, as he qualified for the Beijing Games with a fifth-place finish at the world championships. Hurst went on to
secure an 11th-place result in the 10k at the Olympics. He is also a two-time medal winner at the worlds, earning silver in
1998 in the 5k open water and another silver in the 5k team race in 2011.
