Matthew Goss
Sport: Cycling
Nation: Australia
DOB: November 5, 1986
Hometown: Launceston
Career Highlights: Goss is determined to achieve gold in London after he finished second to Olympic favorite and Great Britain star Mark Cavendish
in the elite men’s road race at the 2011 world championships. Though a strong performance in the Tour de France is on his
radar, Goss' main concern in 2012 seems to be topping his rival in the chase for Olympic gold this summer. A member of Australia’s
team pursuit squad that won gold at the 2006 worlds, Goss excels as a sprinter but also has become more of a complete cyclist
during his career. In what is considered the highlight of his career, Goss won the 2011 Milan-San Remo Classic. His 2012 victories
include Stage 3 of the Giro d’Italia and Stage 1 of the Tirreno-Adriatico. Goss, who resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco, was in
the midst of pursuing a career as an Australian Rules football player when his next door neighbors introduced him to competitive
cycling.
