Leo Manzano

Leo ManzanoSport: Track and Field

Nation: United States of America

DOB: September 12, 1984

Hometown: Austin, TX

Career Highlights: Manzano was born in Mexico before his family moved to Texas when he was a young child, and now he'll be representing the United States at the Olympics for the second time. He reached the semifinals in the 1,500 meters in 2008 in Beijing after finishing second at that year's trials, and he'll head to London as the national champion after using a late surge to win his race in 3:35.75. That ranks among the greatest achievements for Manzano, who won two NCAA championships in the 1,500 while at Texas and two more in the indoor mile. He has qualified for outdoor world championships three times, and he reached the finals at the 2009 worlds. Manzano may have a similar goal in London, where he'll be an underdog for a medal in an event largely dominated by Africans. No American has medaled in the "metric mile" since Jim Ryun's silver in 1968.
